How we work
How we work
Published in full, because a business deciding between us and a larger firm deserves to see exactly what they would be buying.
The engagement
From first conversation to finished work
- 01ConversationYou describe what is going on. We ask where the business is, where it is trying to go, what is preventing the move, and what has already been tried. No pitch.
- 02QualificationIn both directions. We work out whether we can genuinely add value; you work out whether you want to work with us. Some of these end with us saying no.
- 03DiagnosisFor anything substantial: current state, desired state, the gap, root causes, constraints, options, recommendation.
- 04ProposalShort and commercially transparent. Situation, what we understand, what needs to change, approach, scope, responsibilities, team, timeline, investment, expected outcome, terms, next steps.
- 05OnboardingOwners named on both sides. Scope, objectives, deliverables, timeline, communication model, decision rights, dependencies, first milestones, success criteria.
- 06ExecutionThe pod does the work. One accountable owner. Proactive communication. Problems surfaced early.
- 07ReviewWhat was delivered, what changed, what remains, what you should do next.
- 08Continuation or transitionSome work becomes ongoing. Some engagements should end. We will say which we think it is.
The delivery model
One relationship, many specialists
You should not have to manage developers, accountants, consultants, designers, and analysts individually. The engagement lead coordinates the right capability.
- 01Client
- 02Engagement lead
- 03Specialist pod
- 04Delivery
If you find yourself chasing us, we have failed operationally, whatever the deliverables say.
The discovery conversation
It is not a sales call
It is the conversation where we both find out whether this makes sense. We will want to understand where you are, where you are trying to get to, what is stopping you, what you have already tried, and what happens if nothing changes.
That last question matters more than people expect — if nothing much happens, the problem may not be worth solving yet.
Then one of two things: we proceed, or we say no.
Being willing to say no is part of how we work. A firm that takes every engagement is telling you something about how much it values its own judgment.
How we handle problems
Problems are expected. Hiding them is not.
When something goes wrong we identify it, take ownership, explain the impact and what happened, present the corrective action, execute it, and change what needs changing so it does not recur.
You should never discover an avoidable problem through its consequences.
Scope and change
Real projects change. Requirements evolve, new information appears, priorities move.
Our response is not automatically “that is out of scope.” We understand the change, determine its impact, explain the implications, agree what changes, and continue.
Flexibility is valuable. Unlimited unpaid work is not. Both are true at once, and we manage the relationship as though they are.
Commercials
How we price
- The commercial model serves the work — fixed project, milestone-based, retainer, managed service, embedded specialist, transformation engagement, or build-and-transition.
- We sell solutions, not hours. What you buy is the outcome and the capability, not a count of time.
- There is a minimum engagement threshold, because below it we cannot do work worth doing.
- We change scope rather than discount value. If the budget and the outcome do not align, we look at scope, sequence, solution, and engagement model first.
- Milestone billing on larger work. You pay as value lands.
Working together
What we expect from you
- A decision-maker who stays involved
- Not a delegate relaying messages.
- Access to what is actually happening
- Including the parts that are uncomfortable.
- Honesty about what has been tried
- And why it did not work. It is the most useful information available on day one.
- Decisions
- Yes, no, or not now — all three are workable. Indefinite deferral is what destroys the value of work you have already paid for.
Question the why, not the how
Challenge the objective, the recommendation, the assumptions, the expected outcome, the business case. All of that makes the work better. Once the approach is agreed, trust us to determine the appropriate execution within our responsibility. That is how professional expertise creates value.
